Reporting to the COO, you’ll be joining a growing firm with a long pipeline of work. They are a client relationship-focused firm with a strong and knowledgeable team. This role is ideal for someone enjoys operations and is focused on supporting and guiding the teams delivering the company’s products and value streams. Besides leading the engineering team, you’ll be tasked with building a multidisciplinary design and engineering group, ensuring that it evolves and develops with the company. Naturally, you are the person that “leads, manages, and builds.”
A technical mindset is vital. This role also includes training and guiding engineers daily, strong project and team management skills are equally essential. Besides the ‘engineering’ aspects of the role, an entrepreneurial and business-minded approach will be valued…they aren’t just looking for another employee, but someone that will challenge, motivate and have input in the direction of the firm.
VP Engineering responsibilities:
- Guiding and coordinating various design and engineering teams to efficiently progress along the product roadmap while also respecting time and cost constraints (and other criteria)
- Organizing the technical hub of a company or project, structuring the necessary teams based on their skills and operational merit.
- Guiding designers/engineers and their managers in their day-to-day activities to enable them to progress matters relating to both project management and operational guidance for their respective teams.
- Planning the people growth strategy for the design and engineering department, in collaboration with both HR and design and engineering managers in regard to defining the recruitment process for their teams.
- Having a very clear vision of the context in terms of the team, the project and the company. This enables strategic decision-making that keeps technology and human resources working efficiently overall and progressing in the right direction.
- Co-developing, with the CTO, the company’s technology strategy. This approach ensures that all the business and technology elements known to the CTO and all the operational elements known by the VPE are taken into account.
- Communicating with Clients, Consultants, and Trade Contractors.
- Working towards a safe, on-schedule, on-budget, quality completion of every project.
- Ensuring that the required quality standards for every project are attained.
- Engineering degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, PEng with EGBC, an MBA is an asset.
- 8+ years of management experience (with a Pre-Engineered/Conventional Steel company, Structural Engineering/Consulting Firm, or General Contractor).
- Excellent understanding of construction methods, materials, techniques, and costing.
- Commitment to project quality.
- Excellent knowledge of the BC Construction Industry, cross-Canada and International experience is an asset.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Computer skills and various software experience including Microsoft Office Applications including MS Project, Adobe and/or Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and design software such as MBS, Tekla, StaadPro, etc.
- $170,000-$200,000 depending on experience, plus bonus
