The Headhunters have partnered with Bridge Machine Shop (https://bridgemachine.ca/) to add a Shop Foreman to their growing team. This newly created role is ideal for someone looking to lead daily operations on the shop floor, support a skilled team, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.
For more than 45 years, Bridge Machine Shop Ltd. has delivered high-quality industrial refurbishment services across a wide range of industries. They specialize in rebuilding large hydraulic cylinders, repairing heavy industrial equipment, and producing large steel fabrications.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Training
- Mentor, train, and lead shop personnel to maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment.
- Build strong working relationships by understanding team members’ personalities, skill levels, and workflows.
- Lead by example and assist with hands-on tasks when needed to keep production moving.
- Manage the daily work schedule in Kanbanize and coordinate with the Operations Manager to ensure workflow efficiency.
- Review incoming jobs to confirm tooling, drawings, and materials are prepared in advance.
- Collaborate with office staff to maintain adequate tooling, consumables, and materials.
- Oversee maintenance scheduling for equipment, vehicles, and calibration tools.
- Identify opportunities to improve production processes and implement efficiency enhancements.
- Review and approve employee hours, timecards, and labour tickets in Visual ERP.
- Support the Operations Manager by evaluating job requests, preparing workflow processes, and contributing to cost estimates.
- Adjust to shifting priorities and urgent work, including early starts or late finishes when required.
- Maintain strong relationships with employees and customers through clear communication and reliable follow-through.
- Address customer inquiries professionally and coordinate with internal teams to resolve issues.
- Respond to the needs of shop employees and management with a proactive, solutions focused approach.
- Reinforce safety policies and procedures.
- Coordinate shop cleanliness and facility maintenance.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Journeyman Millwright, Machinist, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on industrial repair and assembly experience, ideally involving hydraulics, machining, and welding.
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a jobbing or machine shop environment.
- Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong technical knowledge of hydraulic systems, machining practices, welding processes, honing, and painting.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (Infor Visual ERP and Kanbanize considered assets), Outlook, and Excel.
- Effective leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams.
- A driven, accountable mindset with a commitment to completing tasks efficiently.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to contribute wherever needed.
- Sound decision-making and critical-thinking abilities.
- Hands-on approach with comfort working both on the shop floor and at a desk.
- Excellent organizational skills in both physical and digital environments.
- Industrial shop environment specializing in cylinder rebuilds and equipment repairs.
- Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with overtime as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Fast-paced environment requiring attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Competitive base salary ranging from $110,000 - $115,000 based on experience and qualifications.
