Senior Design Mechanical Engineer

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take a hands-on role in product design and improvement, directly influencing safety, quality, performance and manufacturability.
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer responsibilities:
- Provide senior technical leadership on product design, engineering decisions, technical risk and regulatory compliance.
- Design and improve pressure-containing equipment and hazardous-location heating products.
- Lead engineering projects from planning and design through execution, completion and manufacturing support.
- Complete engineering calculations and design reviews and maintain drawings, BOMs, ECOs and controlled design documentation.
- Apply relevant codes and standards, including ASME Section VIII Division 1, CSA B51, ABSA requirements and CRN registration requirements.
- Support ABSA and CRN submissions, revisions and responses to regulatory review comments.
- Lead engineering activities throughout the product lifecycle, including new product development, sustaining engineering and product improvement.
- Review and resolve engineering deviations, non-conformances and design changes.
- Participate in product and pressure testing, validation, root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Improve engineering standards, tools and processes to reduce rework, production delays and late design changes.
- Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Service, Sales, suppliers and customers.
- Mentor designers and technical team members while promoting engineering and design-for-manufacturing best practices.
- Professional Engineer designation with APEGA
- 6+ of mechanical design experience involving pressure vessels, pressure equipment or pressure-containing products.
- Strong working knowledge of pressure-equipment codes and Canadian registration requirements, including ASME Section VIII Division 1, CSA B51 and CRN processes.
- Experience completing engineering calculations and preparing technical documentation, design submissions and drawing packages.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design, fabrication, welding, manufacturing processes, tolerancing and assembly.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, fabrication, quality or production operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with hazardous-location products and CSA, UL, IECEx or ATEX certifications is an asset.
- Experience with ISO 9001, ECOs, audits, corrective actions, FEA, thermodynamics, heat transfer or fluid mechanics is an asset.
- The discussed salary is approximately $135,000 to $145 000pa depending on experience.
