Senior Automation & Instrumentation Technician
Job Description
Our client designs and supports proprietary, engineered equipment and automation solutions used in demanding field-based industrial environments.
They are growing their U.S. technical team and need a hands-on technical leader who can become the product expert, solve complex issues in the field and help build a stronger, more capable team.
The Senior Automation & Controls Technician will commission, troubleshoot and support automated equipment while training technicians and supporting customers across North America.
Senior Automation & Controls Technician responsibilities:
- Learn the company’s full product line and become the primary U.S. technical resource.
- Install, configure, commission and troubleshoot equipment in the shop and at customer sites.
- Diagnose electrical, electronic, instrumentation and controls issues using schematics, wiring diagrams and P&IDs.
- Integrate equipment with customer automation systems, telemetry, SCADA and third-party controls where required.
- Provide remote and on-site escalation support to field teams across the U.S. and Canada.
- Train, mentor and support technicians to build confident, independent field capability.
- Develop and maintain technical training materials, SOPs, commissioning checklists and troubleshooting resources.
- Set and maintain high standards for installation quality, startup, service and follow-through.
- Partner with the sales team on customer meetings, product demonstrations, site assessments and technical scoping.
- Explain technical capabilities clearly to customers and translate them into practical operational value.
- Share field feedback with engineering and product teams to support continuous product improvement.
- Travel approximately 10–25% across North America.
- 7+ years of experience in instrumentation, automation, controls, industrial electrical or electronics.
- Hands-on experience installing, commissioning and troubleshooting controllers, sensors and automated equipment.
- Strong ability to read and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and P&IDs.
- Strong troubleshooting judgment across electrical, electronic and controls systems.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience configuring, commissioning and troubleshooting PLC-based controls, SCADA/telemetry systems and field automation equipment is required.
- Experience working in hazardous or classified environments would be an asset.
- Prior experience training, mentoring or leading technical team members.
- Experience integrating third-party equipment and communications protocols—including CAN bus and embedded/mobile controllers is preferred.
- Â Authorization to work in the United States.
- $125,000Â to $135,000Â depending on experience.
