We’ve partnered with Zoetica Environmental Consulting (https://www.zoeticaenvironmental.com/) to add a Regional Lead: Eastern to advance their Ontario presence. We are looking for someone to not only be the face of Zoetica in Eastern Canada but also work alongside a team of specialists and environmental scientists, to deliver solutions to clients using two-eyed seeing in collaboration with First Nations/IGOs. You would be contributing to EIAs, Indigenous-led EIAs and focused research studies focused on biodiversity issues within BC, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Ontario, and Yukon regions.

Zoetica works with First Nation, Inuit, and Métis clients; clients in municipal, provincial/territorial, and federal governments and government agencies (e.g., BC Parks, Parks Canada); and private developers. They provide EIAs and associated studies, including full baseline programs/study designs, field programs, analysis and reporting, and mitigation and monitoring plans for a diversity of projects. They also provide third-party technical reviews of EIAs and help to guide clients through the EA process to ensure that they have their concerns considered and are protected from technical errors caused by developers or their consultants.

Regional Lead: Eastern Responsibilities:

This role calls for a wide breadth of knowledge across the fields of biodiversity, EIA practice, regulatory requirements, and interweaving of Western Science, Traditional Knowledge, and industrial processes (including mining, linear corridor, planning, and energy projects). However, the main focus will be to lead and help grow a small biodiversity focused team and to help increase Zoetica’s presence in Eastern Canada. Not only will your people-management skills be valuable, your network and ability to develop business will also be of interest.
  • Project and personnel management: Oversee/manage staff, client relations, and teams of specialists to undertake environmental studies, EIAs, and participation in third-party reviews of EIAs.
  • Participate in strategic growth of the company; assist in business and hiring efforts and decisions within the Ontario region.
  • Participate in relationship-building and business development for EIA-and related environmental work within Canada, particularly within the Ontario region.
  • Provide senior level oversight and review, and project management oversight.
  • Liaise effectively with diverse clients, stakeholders, and right-holders, including the public and members of private, Indigenous, academic, and governmental organizations.
  • Work to develop and improve methodologies for various types of EIAs and ensure that programs will meet jurisdictional requirements across Canada, including social licence requirements of Indigenous and local communities.
  • Work with local Indigenous leaders to develop and manage Indigenous-led EIAs and CEAs that focus on 1) evaluating impacts to environmental values, including those that relate to rights, culture and values, and 2) implementing mitigation and planning strategies that protects those values.
  • Develop budgets, timelines and work plans to achieve time- and budget-constrained deliverables as part of ongoing projects and proposals.
  • Provide some writing and oversight and direction for content and writing of reports, such as those that support or critique EIAs and related post-EIA compliance reporting (e.g., annual reports), Mitigation, Management and Monitoring Plans and other reporting products produced by Zoetica.
The successful candidate has:
  • Well-connected in Ontario, ideally with good working relationships with local First Nation, private clients, and relevant government agencies.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting
  • Experience managing teams and work to produce deliverables that are on time and on budget.
  • Experience utilizing contacts / network to develop business
  • Experience designing, conducting, and reporting on biodiversity-related studies.
  • Experience producing and working on Federal EIAs and on EIAs within any of the following jurisdictions: Ontario, Nunavut, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Quebec, the Maritime provinces, and elsewhere.
  • Familiarity and experience working with processes and infrastructure requirements of industries requiring EIAs, including mining, linear corridors, and energy (such as nuclear, green, solar, wind, hydro, geothermal) projects.
  • Experience working with and integrating perspectives of diverse stakeholder and rights-holders, academic researchers and subject-matter experts.
  • Proven data management and organization skills.
  • High-level knowledge and interest in various environmental disciplines of relevance to biodiversity (e.g., wildlife biology, ecology, habitat suitability modeling, climate change, ecosystems and ecosystem services, Traditional Knowledge).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team environment; and
  • Ability to travel occasionally (as needed).
  • A business development and growth mindset.
Compensation and benefits:
  • Base salary ranging from $110,000 to $130,000 depending on experience plus lucrative profit-sharing plan based on growth of the eastern team.

  • Zoetica has five additional Statutory Holidays that they celebrate, termed “Zoetica Stats”, because there are not enough long weekends in the year. This position will receive 25 paid vacation days, with 20 that are flexible and 5 accounted for by additional paid Zoetica Stat holidays, supplied by Zoetica.
