Job Description

We’re looking for a full-time, on-site Paving Superintendent to join a growing civil construction team.
Our client is a well-established civil contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality infrastructure and road construction projects across Alberta.
The Paving Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing road construction and paving operations from planning through completion, leading field crews, coordinating equipment and subcontractors, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest standards of quality.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of road construction and paving operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise field crews, subcontractors, and equipment operators while promoting productivity, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Coordinate daily labour, equipment, materials, trucking, and subcontractor activities to maintain efficient project execution.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Estimators, and Operations teams to develop work plans, construction sequencing, and project schedules.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation to ensure work is completed in accordance with project requirements.
  • Monitor grading, aggregate placement, base preparation, paving operations, compaction, and overall workmanship to ensure quality standards are consistently achieved.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, safety meetings, and hazard assessments while promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Track project progress, labour productivity, equipment utilization, production quantities, and daily site reports.
  • Identify and resolve field issues while coordinating with project stakeholders to minimize delays and maintain project schedules.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily reports, inspections, deficiencies, change orders, and project updates.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and municipal representatives.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance productivity, efficiency, quality, and safety across field operations.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in road construction, paving, or heavy civil construction.
  • Strong knowledge of roadbuilding operations, grading, aggregate placement, compaction, paving, and civil construction practices.
  • Proven experience leading field crews on municipal, highway, subdivision, or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project schedules.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Strong understanding of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and digital construction management or field reporting systems is considered an asset.
  • CSTS, Ground Disturbance, First Aid, or other relevant safety certifications are considered assets.
