We’re looking for a fully remote Lead Software Engineer, AI Email Applications in the artificial intelligence and productivity software industry.

The Lead Software Engineer, AI Email Applications will be responsible for leading the application engineering strategy and execution of a sophisticated AI-powered email platform while remaining hands-on in architecture, development, and technical leadership.
Lead Software Engineer, AI Email Applications responsibilities:
- Own the application engineering strategy and execution across backend services, APIs, desktop, and mobile applications
- Design and build reliable systems supporting AI-powered workflows, including orchestration, state management, tool integrations, retries, fallbacks, and failure recovery
- Develop scalable APIs and application abstractions that connect AI capabilities to intuitive user experiences
- Lead and mentor a team of senior engineers through architecture reviews, code reviews, technical coaching, and best practices
- Make high-impact decisions balancing reliability, latency, scalability, security, cost, and user experience
- Establish and improve production-grade engineering practices, including observability, monitoring, testing, and operational excellence
- Collaborate closely with machine learning and product leaders to transform AI models into robust, customer-facing solutions
- Drive continuous improvements in system reliability, performance, and maintainability
- Contribute directly to architecture, design, and software development initiatives
- Ensure engineering solutions remain scalable, efficient, and aligned with long-term product objectives
The successful candidate has:
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on product or application development
- Previous experience leading engineering teams, technical initiatives, or complex software projects
- Proven experience building and deploying scalable backend systems in production environments
- Experience developing AI-powered products or integrating modern machine learning and large language model (LLM) technologies into commercial applications
- Strong proficiency with backend technologies, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems
- Experience working across multiple platforms, including web, mobile, or desktop applications
- Excellent technical judgment and problem-solving abilities in fast-changing environments
- Strong understanding of software architecture, system reliability, observability, testing, and operational best practices
- A hands-on leadership style with a demonstrated ability to mentor and elevate engineering teams
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline is considered an asset
Compensation and benefits:
- The discussed salary range is $130,000-$180,000, depending on experience
- Candidates with additional experience and higher compensation expectations may also be considered
