Head of Commodities Trading

Vancouver, BC

Posted: 02/25/2026 Category: Operations Job Number: 19732 Pay Rate: $110,000-$125,000

Job Description

Our client operates behind the scenes of a foundational Canadian industry that supports essential food and materials supply chains.

Their activities span market-driven sourcing, commercial execution, logistics, and downstream processing, connecting producers, processors, and end markets through disciplined, regulated operations.

The organization is privately held, highly relationship-driven, and known for its attention to detail, integrity, and long-term partnerships. Business here is personal, commitments matter, and execution is everything.

Head of Commodities Trading Responsibilities.
  • Final authority on risk for all material positions prior to execution
  • Full oversight of 25 traders across multiple desks and commodities
  • Pressure-test trade logic, exposure, hedge structure, and downside scenarios
  • Set long/short direction and capital allocation across the platform
  • Own quarterly and annual P&L outlooks, delivery, and variance
  • Hold the organization accountable for preventable losses and missed margin
  • Lead, coach, and make decisive talent calls, elevate performers, correct gaps, and exit where required
  • Align desk capacity, succession, and hiring with growth and risk appetite
  • Own client exposure, counterparty risk, and credit discipline
  • Protect long-term relationships while enforcing disciplined commercial execution
The successful candidate has
  • 10+ years trading physical commodities, ideally agriculture, energy or industrial inputs
  • Lived through real cycles, tight supply, oversupply, volatility spikes, margin compression and know how to manage risk through them.
  • Comfortable pressure-testing trades before they hit the market structure, exposure, hedge logic, and worst-case downside.
  • Experience leading a desk or senior traders, not just running your own book.
  • You think in terms of total exposure and total P&L not just “my position”.
Ready to step away from managing a personal book to own risk discipline and performance across the organization.
Compensation and benefits:
  • The discussed salary range is $110 000 to $125 000 depending on experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Aggressive bonuses based on company and personal performance [anywhere from 45 to 70K]
  • Join a tight, experienced team with low turnover and high morale, a group that works as one, challenges each other respectfully, and takes real pride in disciplined execution.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Only candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process will be contacted.
