Design Engineer - Construction
Job Description
Our client is a well-established organization delivering complex infrastructure and construction projects across Western Canada. The Intermediate Design Engineer will be responsible for leading the design and technical delivery of projects from concept through completion, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance objectives are met, while fostering strong client and stakeholder relationships.
Responsibilities
- Interpret geotechnical reports and lab data to evaluate pile capacity and settlement.
- Design deep foundation systems (CIP, CFA, and driven piles).
- Prepare and review calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve design and constructability challenges.
- Provide technical support during construction, including RFIs and site visits.
- Support value engineering and foundation optimization efforts.
- Mentor junior engineers and review their work for quality and accuracy.
- 5+ years of experience in pile foundation design, with familiarity in both driven and bored pile construction methods. Strong understanding of applicable Canadian codes and standards.
- Proficiency with pile design software (e.g., LPile, PLAXIS 2D/3D, GRLWEAP, etc.). Strong knowledge of soil mechanics and deep foundation engineering.
- Experience with support of excavation, driven piles, and micropile design is considered an asset.
- P.Eng. license in Canada required
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. High attention to detail with a commitment to safety and quality.
- Capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently while leading design initiatives.
- Salary range: $100,000 – $135,000 CAD, depending on experience
