Job Description

We are currently searching for a Director of Human Resources to lead the department for a Winnipeg head office which has operations across the country. Reporting to the President, you will lead all HR functions including recruitment, policies and procedures, training and development, union negotiation, group benefits, payroll & pension, staff planning & budgets, corporate events and supporting line managers across the country. In addition, you will drive a positive, collaborative culture and track & report KPI's in support of organizational objectives.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Set the direction of the day-to-day operations of human resources in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization.
  • Lead the staffing budget process as it relates to staffing and human resources.
  • Support the recruitment and staff planning function which is critical and seasonal in nature.
  • Drive and maintain a positive and collaborative culture across the company.
  • Automate, align and create reports on KPI's that impact company goals.
  • Support the needs of head office staff and line managers including performance management, staff evaluations, salary reviews and recruitment.
  • Supervise, lead and develop the HR team.
  • Provide advice and leadership in support of any elevated staffing issue across provincial locations.
  • Review and modify effective human resource policies and practices to meet the needs of both employees and the business.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and benefits.
  • Support market analysis ensuring internal equity and market competitiveness.
  • Work effectively with provincial unions where applicable including collective bargaining and any grievance that may occur.
The successful candidate has:
  • A degree in Human Resources and professional designation would be preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years in a senior HR position.
  • A minimum of 5 years leadership experience.
  • Experience within the construction, property development sector would be a "nice to have" but not essential.
  • Proven ability to establish credibility and influence as a leader among management and staff.
  • A positive presence and ability to drive a supportive and collaborative culture across the company and lead by example.
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to connect and support managers and various stakeholders.
  • Experience in effective working with unions.
  • Analytical with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of employment law including federal and provincial regulations.
  • Previous experience in strategic planning including staff planning and budgets.
  • Ability to track and report KPI's in support of organizational objectives.
  • Excellent presentation skills, problem solving abilities and focus on continuous improvement.
Compensation and benefits:
  • The targeted salary is $100,000 to $120,000 plus bonus.
