Construction Surveyor
Job Description
Our client is a well-established, family-owned civil contractor with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality excavation, earthworks, underground utilities, road construction, and site development projects across southeastern Manitoba.
The Construction Surveyor will support successful project execution by managing survey data, preparing 3D models, completing field layouts, supporting machine control systems, and providing accurate quantity measurements for civil construction projects. This role offers the opportunity to help build and improve surveying processes within a growing organization.
Responsibilities
- Support civil construction projects by preparing and managing survey data from design through field execution.
- Develop and maintain digital models used for machine control, construction layout, and field operations.
- Complete field surveying activities including staking, GPS setup, site verification, and construction measurements.
- Work closely with operators, project teams, and estimators to ensure accurate project information is available when needed.
- Assist with quantity tracking, progress measurements, and as-built documentation throughout project lifecycles.
- Review construction drawings and design information to identify potential issues and support accurate project delivery.
- Provide troubleshooting support for survey equipment, GPS systems, and machine control technology.
- Maintain organized survey records, files, and documentation to support efficient project execution.
- Assist with estimating activities, including quantity calculations and takeoffs, when required.
- Contribute ideas and improvements to help establish efficient surveying procedures and workflows.
- 2+ years of experience in construction surveying, civil surveying, or a related field.
- Experience supporting civil construction projects including earthworks, utilities, roads, or site development.
- Strong understanding of GPS/GNSS surveying, machine control systems, and construction layouts.
- Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC), Trimble Access, or similar surveying software is preferred.
- Ability to create and manage 3D models and survey data.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and construction plans.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and related computer applications.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with field and office teams.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Topcon, or similar systems is considered an asset.
