Job Description


Our client, a high profile and growing multi-location retail operation serving 10 locations in Saskatchewan is seeking a Director of Finance to lead the financial function as part of the senior management group. Reporting to the General Manager and based in the Melville head office, you will oversee the financial reporting, general accounting, budgeting, financial analysis and cost management related to ongoing expansion and investments in the business.

Reporting to the General Manager, key responsibilities will include:
  • Provide leadership of the finance function including general accounting, cost management, budgeting, payroll and IT.
  • As a key member of the senior leadership team, take an active role in the short and long-term strategic planning and decision making for the organization.
  • Oversee the development and execution of the financial strategy including mergers/acquisitions, accounting/financial reporting, budgeting, tax and external investment activities.
  • Understand and forecast trends and changes within the business, industry and economy and implement programs and policies that align.
  • Provide complex financial analysis on matters that impact the company including competitive trends, pricing, cash flow, product line evaluation, capital expenditures and expansion opportunities.
  • Lead and mentor the Finance team including recruitment, development, training and performance management.
  • Develop and implement the department business plan and budget and update accordingly.
  • Forecast and anticipate business challenges and opportunities and ensure the company's financial and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including sales, gross margin, operating expenses and profitability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate financial controls and risk management into daily operations.
  • Implement technology-driven financial solutions to streamline accounting and financial processes.

What the successful candidate will bring:
  • A CPA designation with a minimum of 10+ years of senior finance leadership.
  • Strong financial reporting and budgeting background.
  • Previous experience within a multi-location, retail environment is highly desirable.
  • Strategic project planning and cost management for capital investments and new growth initiatives.
  • Comfort and experience with ERP systems and implementations. 
  • Excellent people and communication skills and ability to deal effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving ability.
